RSS 2 - Radar System Simulator
Project Description:
In the course of the preceding project, RSS 1, a collection of tools has been developed, which is collectively referred to as RSS (Radar-System-Simulator). These tools allow the processing of generated measurement data, correlation, orbit determination, cataloguing and catalogue maintenance.

Principal Tools
- MWG (Messwertgenerator, english: Measurement value generator)
- PROCOR (Process Coordinator):
- SMART (Sophisticated Module for Analysis of Radar Tracklets)
- CAT (Catalogue Analysis Tool)
- CAMP (Catalogue Maintenance and Pass prediction tool)
Goals of RSS 2
Based on the results of RSS 1, the goal of this study is to use the developed tools for a sophisticated sensitivity analysis. The main objective is to develop an understanding of which orbit determination methods and settings are most suitable for which situation. For this reason, it is necessary to identify
quality criteria for the orbital data catalogue of space situational awareness systems.
In order to support the main objective, the existing tools will be further developed by means of corrections and additions.
Project Term:
09/2018 – on going: As in the contract „Entwicklung eines Radar-System-Simulators 2“ with the funding code FKZ: 50LZ1803
Partners:
The study is being performed by the Institute of Space Systems with the support of the Fraunhofer FHR (Fraunhofer Institute for High Frequency Physics and Radar Techniques) and the AIUB (Astronomical Institute of the University of Bern).
